KNUST CSIRT Mandate
The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Computer Security Incident Response Team (KNUST CSIRT) is established to promote and enhance a safe cyber-ecosystem for its constituents within KNUST. The team is authorised to create and implement programs, policies, and initiatives that align with the organisation's strategic goals.
The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Computer Security Incident Response Team (KNUST CSIRT) is established to operate at tier 2 of the KNUST Security Operating Centre (SOC).

Whilst the CSIRT team will be primarily responsible for event logging, investigating, triaging and resolution, the SOC team will deal with post-incident activities, Internal communications, Public relations and Legal matters.


The teams will report directly to the Deputy Director, Information Security and Technology Assurance (ISTAD), who will also report to the Director, University Information Technology Services (UITS). The Deputy Director, ISTAD, is authorised to lead the teams and coordinate their activities.

Publishing CSIRT Policies and Procedures

The Policies and Procedures relative to the KNUST CSIRT are enshrined in the KNUST ICT policy and additional information on the Website of University Information and Technology Services for our constituents. This is published at www.uits.knust.edu.gh/istad. However, please note that, notwithstanding the above, KNUST CSIRT services will be provided for on-site systems only.

Relationships Between Different CSIRTs

CSIRTS do not work in isolation. In this regard the KNUST CSIRTS shall work with the zonal/sectoral and national CSIRTS. These include the Ghanaian Academic and Research Network (GARNET), West and Central African Research and Education Network (WACREN) and Cybersecurity Authority (CSA) CSIRTS.

Establishing Secure Communications

For effective and secure communication with our constituents to ensure data Confidentiality, Integrity and Authenticity, KNUST CSIRT shall work through channels like WhatsApp, secure web portal, email and phone calls.

The preferred method for contacting the KNUST CSIRT is via e-mail at csirt@knust.edu.gh; e-mail sent to this address will get to the personnel on duty, or be automatically forwarded to the appropriate backup person, immediately. If you require urgent assistance, put "urgent" in your subject line. If it is not possible (or not advisable for security reasons) to use e-mail, the KNUST CSIRT can be reached by telephone during regular office hours. Telephone messages are checked less often than e-mail. If possible, when submitting your report, use the form mentioned on the website uits.knust.edu.gh/istad to report incidents.
